Greek Trireme 1/72

An ancient warship that derives its name from the three rows of oars it was fitted with.
It was used by the Phoenicians, the Greeks and later the Romans, from the 7th to the 4th century BC. She took part in the Persian wars, playing a decisive role to the outcome of the naval battle of Salamis and she also starred in the creation of the Athenian naval empire and the Peloponnesian war.
Her design pushed ancient naval technology to its limits, constructing a particularly fast and flexible craft. As a result, it established herself as the predominant type of warship in the Mediterranean.
Her main weapon, the embolous, wooden or metallic, was 2 meters long and weighted 200 kilos, with which she attacked the enemy boats, caused a crack in the keel and sank them.

Model Details

The model is painted with both airbrush and brush for a smooth and detailed finish. Color shades are selected after an intensive survey, taking into account photographs of the original in various light conditions, cloudy or sunny, and from different angles, to give an exact matching.
Visits made to the trireme Olympias of Hellenic Navy, a replica of an ancient greek trireme, proved to be extremely helpful.
Special modelling techniques are applied in order to achieve a wood-like appearance of the ship, and a fabric-like appearance of the sails.
